I think I saw a couple of female shrimps berried, but this one took the cake. Down into the breeding box that has stood idle for a while now.

Hygrophila polysperma 'Rosanervig' and Bolbitis heudelotii

Upate of my Bolbitis Heudelotii (African Fern) & took it out for cleaning- 05 June 2013
Thriving and still expanding twice the size of adult palm.

My optometrist recently told me that my eyesight has somewhat improved ...hmmm. Could it be attributed to my soothing planted tank? Oh well, may be I am just trying to find excuses to bring in more plants into my tank...hur hur hur.

The followings are some of my favourite plants worth highlighting in my blog.

Polysperma "Rosanervig". It leaf has lovely pink color with white vein that look like sunset and is also known as Hygro sunset. There is the greener variety shown on the 2nd photo with nice yellowish green tone. Though these plants are fast growing weeds in india and being restricted for export in some part of the world, it has received positive feedback as aquarium plants. Worth giving such plant a try as they ain't expensive and give my tank nice shade of colors.

Contrary to the above, Bolbitis heudelotii also known as African Water Fern is a slow grower. Their growing regime is very similar to Java Fern where its rhizome is attached to drift wood, this plant thrives under low light and fast moving water. It is also one of the most expensive aqua plants sold in LFS. I bought this small specimen through sharing the cost with another aquarist friend.

Mini Cory

My itchy hand syndrome began whenever I saw fishes that are presumably shrimp friendly.
Here is my new pet: Mini Cory. They are like "mice with whiskers" lurking in my tank when foods are thrown in. An adult fire red acts as scale to the size of this mini cory. They enjoy the company of their own species thus it is good to have a group of 4 or 5 pieces. as in my case, to warm up this rather shy and fragile fish.

Mesh for Aquarium

I am putting up this seller for future reference in case I might need a couple of meshes for my aquarium.

"UOF"

I saw a small fish the size of shrimplet darting in the midground of my tank. I don't really know what it was. Recently I have bought some polysperma and I suspect it came with the plants? It doesn't seem to resemble any of the fishes in my tank - galaxy, endler -or probably too small to be recognisable at this stage. My lousy camera is unable to capture and zoom in this longish looking "UOF".

500 to 50

The shrimps shown in the photo are probably the 8th generations since I first acquired my first batch of Fire Red. Their color has returned after massive casualties (down from 500 to 50) for some reason I am still clueless about. The good news is they have stablised and their color has somewhat darkened in my new tank, sign of ideal water paramater? I am now waiting for some of these precious female FR to "berry" again, in the hope to build back an "empire of red army".

Breeding Box

As my shrimp population is dwindling fast due to unforseeable reasons, I have entrusted an aquatic friend, Stanley Wong , to source a breeding box. Here is what he got for me at flea market price. I improvised them with base netting and side suction holders.

Zebra Snail's eggs

I have a couple of nitrite horn snais and after acquiring two huge zebra snails the size of a knuckle, this is what I found on my driftwood. They are the size of sesame seeds and quite scattered, don't look pretty at all.
